My vintage is
1968-75. I was in the last selective intake, and went through to the 6th form.
I'll try to put some of the history down later, as I was there throughout the
major change to the comprehensive (and I can remember Frank Kurley, though I
doubt whether he remembers me) Here are some things that might spark more from
the page:
The Admiralty. When I was there it was just rubble - can anyone remember more?
Fred/Fido (History) Barker's scraps jar - in the days of school dinners he used
to get the dinner ladies to fill it with scraps for his cat.
Derek Shipley (French and Careers) - the Shipley quads were famous in their
own right. "Congratulations to Mr Shipley on scoring a boundary" written on
the blackboard.
Dave Sanderson's trousers.
Dinners at Jordanthorpe when re-development was underway.
The observatory - the cover always blew off in any sort of wind.
6th form shows at Christmas
Chris Stainton's 'Tundra' concert in the drama hall 1974/5??
The Panorama programme comparing Rowlinson to (I think) King Teds
Gilbert and Sullivan productions: Pirates of Penzance, Mikado, Patience The
'Smilerphone' Flooded Games Pitches
And stuff that they'd never get away with nowdays: English Staff parties at
Hunter House Rd. and getting to the lights in the drama hall roof by walking
along the girders.
Constantly on the VIth form radiogram 73-75: Pink Floyd : Dark Side of the Moon
:Free Fire and Water : Beatles :
66-70 I remember the following teachers:
Mr Holt Physics
Mr Dean Physics
'Spike' Godfrey French - my 1st year form master, he taught until at least my
3rd year.
Graham Seaton French
Fred Rowley Music
Dick Knight Biology and keen cyclist
Dave Dawson English
Derek Shipley French and Careers

I note that the badge you have is the version with the centre looking like a
daisy - some versions had a much more distinct cog.
If you're very lucky, I may still even have a copy of the programme from when
H.Wilson opened the school in my mum's attic - it may be some time before I
get to it mind!. I suspect the opening was later than '68, as I distinctly remember
one of the photos in the programme being taken in the chemistry lab, which was
on the site of one of the old dining rooms (near the metalwork area).
Some notes:
68-69 Last selective intake. 4 forms of approx 30. Still Rowlinson Technical
School. 21 rooms + labs and workshops. Two dining rooms with kitchens between.
Metalwork/Woodwork down east side. two art rooms. Tech drawing rooms. Music
room on top floor. language lab room 21. VIth form in rooms 18/19? Tuck shop
in NE corner near the metalwork area.
69-70 1st comprehensive intake, but still only 4 forms. Work started on changing
dining room/kitchens into new science areas. School meals taken @Jordanthorpe?.
Terrapin buildings appear next to gym.
70-71 Big intake (12/13 forms?) and including girls.
