Picture of Dick Knight
(biology and cycling club) David Bramley and Neil Cousens taken by myself during
the Rowlinson Cycling Club's tour of North Wales. Neil unfortunately died in 1994.
The photo was taken in 1969 at the youth hostel at Pen y pas at the top of Llamberis,
North Wales. Dick gave me the photos (I'll send you the rest when I have found
them, in 1990 when I tracked him down. He was the fittest man I knew, he lived
in Wingerworth, south of Chesterfield and commuted to Rowlinson every day on his
bike ( a 'Curly' Hetchins) in every weather except snow and ice. The round trip
was about 20 miles. When I tracked him down he had been forced to take early retirement
because of heart trouble. The sad thing was he had to give up the cycling as any
strain on his heart could have been fatal. He was lucky to have been still alive.
As far as I know he retired to Higham Ferrers in Northants where his family came
from. The prognosis did not sound good.
