| 20 October 2000 | Through
the generousity of ROS members in submitting stories, items and photographs,
I am beginning to accumulate a large amount of material that is simply too
big, (once it has been scanned), to include on the web site. For example
there are already 2 commemorative booklets relating to the school's history,
a copy of the 1967 school magazine (Compass) and a complete set of the school
registers from 1968. Scanned at a suitable resolution the copy of Compass
alone is just under 10 megabytes! I also have copies of most of the materials that area already on the web site at a higher resolution than is practical to upload and I suspect that many of you might like the opportunity to have copies of this material which you can keep, rather than have to access the Internet every time you want to look at it. It occurs to me that it would be a fairly simple job to create a version of the web site on CD ROM with additional materials at a much higher quality. The CD would also serve as an archive which could possibly be donated to the City Library - particularly since they appear to have very little historical information about the school. From our perspective it would serve as a permanent reminder. I've already scanned quite a lot of the material, but would need to create an off-line version of the web site material and construct an easily navigable menu system for it. In view of the amount of time involved in producing. packing and posting the CD ROMs I'd have to make a small charge - probably in the region of £5 to £10 (£UK sterling). Any "profit" on the production cost can go towards the cost of domain name re-registration which rears its ugly head early next year. Please let me know if you are interested in a copy of the CD, so that I can look into the costs of doing it. Just e-mail me from the link below. |
